Finding your accommodation is one of the most vital step in planning your holiday, more so, for a solo traveler.
So how on earth did I find my accommodation and why find it in a monastery? Well, since my purpose of travel is not only for holiday but also to have some solemn peace with myself, so I thought what could be the most appropriate place than staying with religious Nuns?
Thanks to google and keywords search, as I have been reading blogs, tips and recommendations about pursuing a solo trip, I came across some reviews about her recent travel in Rome and had stayed in a monastery. This gave me the idea to continuously search for "monasteries" in Rome and fortunately found this website https://www.monasterystays.com. Their website is quite user friendly.
I have chosen ISTITUTO ORSOLINE DI MARIA IMMACOLATA for these reasons: 1) Location; 2) Price; 3) availability of single room and lastly 4) good reviews from other websites (Trip Advisor) about this place.
I stayed 6 nights for my whole Rome Trip and have no regrets. I will definitely comeback and recommend this great place.
Location: Trastevere (best location to walk back and forth to tourist attractions, and not to mention, this area also has some of the best trattoria to indulge your cravings too) hint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdNd5R5lsMU
Price: for 6N stay in Summer (24th-29th June) cost Euro 231 (including tax)

My sentiments:
Pros
- cheaper
- quiet and peaceful
- chapel to visit at the 1st floor (got 645am mass in Italian from M-Sat)
- free wifi (at pantry)
- towels provided
- safe
- vendo machines for snacks, water, coffee, tea
- lift (old style elevator)
- all the nuns and housekeeper staff speaks English fluently
Cons
- curfew at 11:30PM (if you are a party/night pub goer, perhaps not convenient)
- free wifi only in pantry, not able to reach inside the room (but same level for your room)
- no aircon ( warm in summer, but Sister Ana provided me extra desk fan)
- towels only changed every 3 days (I'm fine with it)
- no breakfast (well, I prefer to have my food adventure outside)
Sister Anna and Bernadette (Filipino housekeeper), wonderful, |
TIPS:
book directly at their website or email (refer to the calling card photo) for cheaper price of stay as the monasterystays website as a booking agent charges slighlty higher
